The Asia Institute to host Virtual Familiarization Week October 26-30

From October 26-30, The Asia Institute will host a special week of webinars and other virtual programming covering themes relevant to the future of global education abroad in Asia. Virtual Week 2020 will feature a series of interactive dialogues ranging from Women’s Leadership in Asia, Comparative Impacts to Covid-19, and Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

All sessions are free to register and designed for international educators (university staff and faculty) regardless of background in the topic area. Some sessions have a participant limit, so we encourage you to register early.

Women in Leadership: Gender and Identity in Asia

Date/Time: Monday, October 26, 8:00-9:30pm EDT

This interactive dialogue will examine gender issues in Asia along four key dimensions: economic participation, educational attainment, health and wellness, and empowerment. Additionally, we will discuss the challenges and opportunities for women leaders in Asia.

The discussion will be facilitated by Dr. Ellen Touchstone, Associate Dean, Responsible and Sustainable Business Education, International Business School, Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University and included perspectives from Robe Ann Paccial, Head of Recruiting, Training and Development, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, Noga Feige, Founder & CEO, TravelChina and Christine Wang, China Board Chair, The Library Project.

Achieving UN Sustainability Goals in Asia

Date/Time: Wednesday October 28, 10:00-11:30 a.m. EDT

During this session, invited experts will discuss how their organizations engage with local communities, students, and disadvantaged groups, to build a more sustainable future by fostering connections among broad communities.

Facilitated by Dr. Lois A. Bosch, Retired Professor, Department of Social Work, Augsburg University, this session will include panelists Kyaw Kyaw Min Htut, Director, BEAM Education Foundation, Shweta Chari, Co-Founder & CEO, ToyBank India and Krishna M. Gautam, Founder & Chairperson, Ageing Population.

Tour Asia: The Intersect of History and Modern Life

Date/Time: Wednesday October 28, 8:00-9:00pm EDT

This special tour and cultural exploration of Southeast Asia will feature pre-recorded videos and a question/answer session with expert tour guides. During the session, attendees will explore various cultures through food, clothing, and UNESCO world heritage sites.

This session will be moderated by Fred Young, Assistant Professor of the Practice, Economics, Villanova University. He will be joined in discussion by Sachin Rawat, Deputy General Manager at FCM Travel Solutions India, Eddie Tao, Cultural Expert, CYTS China Tours and Robert Koh, Founder and Executive Director, Korean Tour Guide & Co. (KTG & Co).

COVID-19 Responses and Approach

Date/Time: Friday October 30, 10:00-11:30 a.m. EDT

This session will include an in-depth discussion on how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted various industry sectors, including culture, business and education abroad. Moderated by Bradley A. Feuling, Chairman/CEO, The Asia Institute, and including perspectives from Narut Charoensri, Lecturer, School of International Affairs at Chiang Mai University, Hung Nguyen, Vice President at Footstep Travel Vietnam and Paul Lin, Chief Strategy Officer at POSSIBLE China, this panel will also explore how international education can adapt moving forward.
