COVID-19 Study Abroad Update: Relocating Faculty-Led Programs to Southeast Asia

Given the unique circumstances of the unexpected coronavirus (COVID-19), The Asia Institute is actively serving as an on-the-ground resource for universities and colleges working through study abroad-related cancellations, postponements and adjustments.

One such faculty-led short-term program is the University of Pittsburgh’s INNOVATE program, which examines global issues in engineering and business. Working closely with Kristine Lalley, Director of International Engineering Initiatives at the Swanson School of Engineering, The Asia Institute has helped to pivot the program from China to Southeast Asia (Vietnam/Singapore) which will continue in March, as planned. Ms. Lalley commented:

“We are all truly in awe of how hard The Asia Institute team has been working to help us in this challenging time – we are so grateful for your boundless energy and incredible dedication and professionalism. We know for certain that this would not work if it were not for the heart and soul you put into everything you do. It is remarkable!”

If your institution needs any assistance to adjust Asia-based study abroad programming, or if you are considering faculty-led short term programs in Asia in 2021, our team at The Asia Institute would welcome the opportunity to support you!
