The “Pitt on Location” program will allow international students to learn alongside other Pitt students both in-person and virtually
The Asia Institute, a leading host partner for strategic institutional relationships in Asia, and the University of Pittsburgh have announced an expansion of their partnership to deliver support services for in-person study on the campus of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China. The “Pitt on Location” Program for Spring 2021 will ensure international students who are currently living in China and South Korea have the opportunity to connect with the University of Pittsburgh community by learning alongside other Pitt students both in-person and virtually.
“We would love to have all our international students with us here in Pittsburgh, but we realize it is difficult for some students to get here at this time,” said Jeff Whitehead, Director of Pitt Study Abroad. “The Pitt on Location – XJTLU program offers students the opportunity to immerse in Pitt community while taking classes that keep you on track for graduation.”
Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is the largest international joint-university in China, with over 12,000 students, and roughly 100 courses taught in English, in addition to a comprehensive academic program. Classes will be delivered by XJTLU’s internationally diverse faculty, with housing accommodations adjacent to the university provided. The campus is located in Suzhou Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District, seven miles east of the historic center of Suzhou, and roughly 50 miles west of Shanghai.
The Asia Institute’s onsite support team will guide students through enrollment and registration processes and provide international students with 24/7 onsite support including regular check-ins, mobile connectivity and emergency response resources. University of Pittsburgh students will also benefit from unique engagement opportunities throughout the semester including a “buddy program” with on-campus students and panel discussions with local alumni.
