Key Destinations in Asia Reopening to Quarantine-Free Travel

In recent days, several countries in Asia have announced plans to begin reopening their borders and move away from the zero-Covid strategies that have prevented short-term study abroad opportunities in the region. The Asia Institute is encouraged by recent news of quarantine-free travel and what it means for the international education community in 2022 and beyond. Below are some highlights of recent measures being adopted:

  • Singapore: The easing of international travel measures includes new “vaccinated travel lanes” (VTLs) to countries in Europe, North America and Asia. Applications opened on Tuesday, October 12.. Read more.
  • Thailand: Beginning November 1, fully vaccinated travelers from 10 low-risk countries, including the United States, will be allowed to visit Thailand without quarantine. Read More.
  • India: Starting November 15, India will allow fully vaccinated visitors with tourist visas to enter the country. Read More.
  • Vietnam: Vietnam is planning to reopen key tourism destinations to fully vaccinated visitors coming from countries that it considers low-risk for COVID-19, starting in December. A full reopening of international tourism is targeted for June 2022. Read More.
